G&H Welcomes New Apprentices
Leeds-headquartered G&H, has bolstered its team with the addition of eight new apprentices.
Their arrival comes as apprenticeships and technical education are firmly in the national spotlight, following Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s commitment to create parity between academic and technical pathways to employment.
Over the next 18-months to five years, the new recruits will earn while they learn, receiving hands-on training at the mechanical, electrical and public health service provider. With roles based on site and within the office, the eight new recruits will work closely with experienced colleagues and on completion achieve a professional qualification.
This year’s apprentices will combine their practical experience at G&H with their academic provision provided by Leeds College of Building and Heart of Yorkshire.
The latest intake includes 27-year-old electrical apprentice Dan Brook, who has taken a different route into the construction industry after spending seven years working in IT and technical support.

Dan gained his Level 2 and Level 3 diplomas in just six months with electrical training provider Trade Skills 4U, self-funding both courses. He then secured a week of work experience on site with G&H. Having enjoyed the placement, Dan discovered that G&H was open to recruiting apprentices who were already part-way through their qualifications, and decided to apply.
Commenting, Dan said: “I really enjoyed my onsite work experience. I gained an insight into what G&H did and what it would be like working for them. When I found out they were open to taking on someone already part way through their qualification, I submitted my application.
“My route into the apprenticeship was a little different, having spent seven years working in IT and technical support, but many of my existing skills were transferable to the electrical industry.
“Since starting, I’ve really enjoyed putting my training into practice and learning from experienced people. For me, the apprenticeship is about more than gaining a qualification; it’s about developing my skills and building a career for the future.
“Changing careers and starting again as an apprentice was a big decision, so I was pleased to be offered the opportunity and see my hard work pay off.”
Paul Churchill, development manager at G&H, said: “There is more than one route into a successful career, as Andy Burnham has highlighted with a renewed focus on technical education. From the beginning, apprenticeships enable talented people to enter the construction industry, gain recognisable qualifications, and develop valuable, hands-on experience.
“It is fundamental to the success of G&H and the wider industry that we provide meaningful opportunities to people who have the ambition to succeed in the construction industry. I’m pleased to welcome our new apprentices to G&H and look forward to watching them develop, contribute to our clients and grow with us.”
Established in 1998, G&H designs, delivers and maintains mechanical, electrical and public health engineering solutions for clients across the UK. Headquartered in Leeds, the company provides end-to-end MEP services from design and installation through to long-term maintenance.
