Work at Emerald Headingley Stadium’s iconic Tetley’s South Stand completed

The new rugby Tetley’s South Stand at Emerald Headingley Stadium has been completed ahead of its official opening on Boxing Day.

Leeds Rhinos supporters will be the first to experience the new fully opened stand in the Wetherby Whaler Festive Challenge match against Wakefield Wildcats on December 26.

G&H Building Services designed and installed all mechanical and electrical works as part of its £5 million contract with Caddick Construction that also sees it powering the combined rugby and cricket North Stand and old cricket pavilion.

The iconic Tetley’s South Stand saw G&H Building Services install internal and external lighting, PA sound system, HVAC, Building Management System and external water and gas services.

Lighting, power, fire alarms, security systems, AV, PA, CCTV, data and door access were also fitted.

Senior Contracts Manager at G&H Building Services, David Wilson, said: “The Tetley’s South Stand is now complete and looks fantastic especially with the lights on.

“It marks a new chapter in the stand’s history that has long been revered as Leeds Rhinos’ extra man.

“I’m sure the combination of terracing and seating will create an excellent atmosphere and the new facilities underneath the stand and improved access will enhance the visitor experience immeasurably.

“Our work is progressing well and on time – we’re now mid-point in the programme for the combined rugby and cricket stand.

“Once finished, supporters will be able to enjoy world-class sport in a world-class stadium that features the latest state-of-the-art facilities.”

The £45 million stadium redevelopment is a joint project between Yorkshire County Cricket Club and rugby league side Leeds Rhinos.

Building services are now being installed in spectator facing parts of the cricket and rugby stands, banqueting and corporate suites and underneath where refreshment areas, changing rooms, treatment areas and offices are situated.
