OVERVIEW
Appleton Roebuck Primary School’s ageing oil-fired boiler system had become increasingly
unreliable, with frequent breakdowns causing fluctuating classroom temperatures and
disrupting pupils’ learning. Recognising the need for a modern, sustainable solution, Yorkshire Learning Trust worked in partnership with BTG Eddisons to secure funding through the Salix Public Sector Decarbonisation Fund.
Following a competitive tender process, G&H was appointed to design, install, test, and
commission a low-carbon replacement – a new ASHP system. The upgrade centred on three Vaillant AroTherm Plus heat pumps delivering a combined 36.3kW capacity, replacing the inefficient oil-fired boiler entirely.
SOLUTION
G&H delivered:
Mechanical Installation: Installation of ASHP units and new mechanical plant to deliver a fully functional, energy-efficient system.
Pipework Installation: Modification of the existing Low Temperature Hot Water (LTHW)
pipework to align with the new system and technical design requirements.
System Integration: Replacement of the basic legacy control system with a modern heat pump control platform.
Testing & Commissioning: Comprehensive integrity, performance, and safety testing, including pressure tests and full functional checks of all control and safety devices.
Documentation & Handover: Delivery of complete project documentation, including test results and commissioning reports. G&H also provided full training for school staff to
ensure they could operate and maintain the new systems with confidence.
