OVERVIEW
Working in partnership with the main contractor, ENGIE and the end clients Derbyshire County Council and Housing and Care 21, we carried out a full mechanical and electrical design and build scheme for a new, £7.6 million state-of-the-art facility.
This vitally important scheme will help provide more high quality, purpose built extra care facilities to accommodate the UK’s increasingly expanding elderly population.
Housing and Care 21 – a leading provider of retirement housing for older people mainly those aged 65 and over – will manage the property and Derbyshire County Council will provide 24/7 onsite care services.
CHALLENGE
Our work required us to carry out extensive liaison with Derbyshire County Council and Housing and Care 21 through ENGIE to meet project requirements.
This included details such as specifying contrasting colours for light switches and sockets and suitable feature lighting for the residential care centre that is home to elderly residents with dementia.
Heavy snow and rain during the winter months and the Peak District location made this a challenging scheme that required extensive planning and liaison on and off-site.
SOLUTION
We provided the full M&E package including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, hot water, sprinkler system, fire alarms, CCTV, data, small power, access control, warden call system, lightning protection system, smoke vent system and gas works.
RESULTS
A 73-bed project in Buxton that is made up of 53 two-bedroom extra care apartments and a specialist 20-place residential care centre. Communal facilities include a restaurant, salon and health suite.
