OVERVIEW

This project saw us design and build the full mechanical and electrical services for a new 2,400sqm primary school in Castleford, West Yorkshire and also the isolation of the building supplies as part of the main contractor’s demolition of the old school.

CHALLENGE

With Redhill Infants and Redhill Junior School merging, the needs of 420 pupils, 39 children attending the nursery on a full-time basis plus teachers and staff were paramount to our designs. As such, extensive liaison was carried out with the our direct client, the Education Fund Authority, which was representing the school.

Lighting, heating, mechanical ventilation, power outlets and sockets and how they would function and comply with building regulations were central to our discussions at the design stage. Regular onsite meetings were carried out every two weeks with any changes incorporated as quickly and cost- effectively as possible.

SOLUTION

Electrical services included switchboards, distribution boards, interior, exterior and emergency lighting, small power, fire alarm, door entry intercom, door access, CCTV, electrical supplies for mechanical services, testing and commissioning and O&M manuals.

Mechanically, we provided the design, supply and installation of domestic services, a LTHW heating system, above ground drainage, sanitary ware, ventilation systems, flues, natural ventilation systems, natural gas, testing and commissioning, BMS controls, refrigeration and thermal insulation.

RESULTS

We met all deadlines and once the scheme was handed over, we assisted with the demolition of the old 2,500sqm school, isolating mains power, cold water and gas supplies.
