OVERVIEW
As part of its sustainability strategy, market-leading pottery and ceramics manufacturer, Denby Pottery, needed to increase energy efficiency, decrease operational costs, and further reduce its impact on the environment.
CHALLENGE
Creating its high-quality stoneware products at its factory in Derbyshire requires a great deal of energy. As a result, Denby Pottery was significantly impacted by rising energy prices.
A long-term solution was required by Denby Pottery to reduce its operational costs, further improve its sustainability and protect customers from price increases.
SOLUTION
G&H played a leading role in delivering a new Solar PV solution for Denby Pottery. Our key
responsibilities were to:
• Design, supply and install high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) systems including the RM Unit and transformers;
• Liaise with the National Grid regarding the G100 compliant export limitation process
(meaning all electricity must be utilised on the premises by the embedded generator and
not spill on to the network);
• Manage the turnkey project at every stage, which included enlisting and overseeing a
20-strong team, from the supervisors and National Electricity Regulation Scheme (NERS) accredited HV contractors, to the civil contractors and G&H electricians;
• Appointed and managed Engineered Systems (Electrical) Ltd to deliver the grid
connections;
• Ensure health and safety across the site, including the bridleway that crossed the area. Work commenced in September 2023, and despite adverse weather conditions, the project was completed on time in November 2023.

RESULTS
In partnership with YLEM Energy, G&H delivered a bespoke 2MW Solar PV solution. The ground-mounted DMEGC Solar 550W modules, which are located on land in close proximity to the factory, will reduce Denby Pottery’s CO2 emissions by a staggering 475 tonnes per annum and deliver significant energy cost savings as the pottery manufacturer can now generate its own power.
