The entire team consistently followed stringent health and safety protocols, which gave me – and the rest of the staff – confidence that we were in safe and capable hands. We couldn’t be happier with the final result.”
Mark Viney, Site Manager, The McAuley Catholic High School
OVERVIEW
Eddisons appointed G&H as the principal contractor to replace The McAuley Catholic High School’s inefficient heating system, after we helped them secure funding from the Department for Education’s (DfE) Condition Improvement Scheme (CIF).
CHALLENGE
To install, test, and commission six new 150kW Ideal Evomax 2 boilers, pumps, and valves. The scope of work included the fabrication and installation of local pipework to ensure compatibility and integration with the existing heating system via a new plate heat exchanger.
SOLUTION
G&H was appointed as the main contractor by Eddisons for the mechanical and electrical
installation, onsite pipework fabrication and installation, system integration, testing,
commissioning and handover. This involved:
- Preparation work including the removal of asbestos for both the safety of the students
and staff, plus the G&H engineers working onsite. - Ensuring the school remained fully operational and comfortable for students and staff to continue to perform optimally, by supplying temporary boilers.
- Positioning and securing the six new boilers, ensuring proper alignment and support.
- Customising and installing pipework to connect the new boilers to the existing
heating system, including necessary fittings, valves, and insulation. - Installing a new Building Management System (BMS) that seamlessly integrates
with the existing control systems and safety mechanisms including the fire alarm. In
the event of a fire the entire plant room will automatically be triggered to shut down when the fire alarm is activated. - Conducting comprehensive tests to verify system integrity, performance, and safety.
This included pressure testing, flow rate verification, and functional testing of all
control and safety devices. - G&H providing the onsite maintenance team with training for the new BMS so that they can operate it efficiently and economically.
RESULTS
The McAuley Catholic High School now benefits from six new efficient and economical boilers
ensuring the 1600 plus students, and staff, whether in a lesson, undertaking exams, or
attending assembly, are in a comfortable environment where they can perform at their best.
